Harlaxton are very proud to have been involved with the multi award winning M5 Gloucester Motorway service station in conjunction with Buckingham Group Contracting. Prior to works commencing the schemes utilities were designed by Harlaxton’s engineers. Enabling a flexible approach to ensure that the design and build remained close to the owners ambitions of seamlessly blending into its surrounding natural environment on the edge of the Cotswolds. Owned and operated by family run Westmoreland and Gloucester Gateway Trust, renouncing the use of chain shops or restaurants at its service station site, instead offering local goods and produce.
Such a scheme involved Harlaxton’s utility expertise at an early stage, allowing Harlaxton to liaise with key third party groups such as Western Power Distribution, Severn Trent Water, Wales and West Utilities, Highways England and Gloucestershire County Council, to ensure the scheme met key target dates for its utilities allowing the build to continue uninterrupted Harlaxton works also included a variety of offsite excavations to meet the required supply and load required for the developments. Out of hours working to avoid unneeded disruption to the motorway network was undertaken. Regular meetings with the developers, planners, local authority and sub-contractors providing key dates and information so works could be progressed and deadlines met. Harlaxton’s works at the Gloucester Motorway Service station have secured a continued working relationship Buckingham Group and repeat business for infrastructure improvements from Westmoreland.
