Case Study
Lidl UK
One of the UK’s fastest growing supermarket chains appointed Harlaxton to deliver and install the electricity supply for its new store at Hornchurch in East London.
The electricity had to be capable of delivering a load of 210kVA to feed the entire store including its upgraded refrigeration system.
“Lidl has used Harlaxton’s assistance across a number of projects and their expertise has certainly helped resolve complex issues and deliver developments as efficiently as possible.”
Phil Daley, Construction Manager, Lidl UK
The challenges
Timescales – Lidl’s project plan for the new store opening required Harlaxton to provide a rapid response and delivery for the electricity supply and installation.
Reliability – an efficient and reliable electricity supply for the refrigeration system was also especially important, as any system malfunction could cost the company thousands of pounds in lost revenue, with around 50% of the store allocated to chilled or frozen foods
Solution
Flexible client orientated planning to build a scalable electricity power supply with off-site built substation to minimise on site time.
Services provided
– 210kVA supply
– New 500kVA substation
– 200m of off-site twin DNO HV cable
– 600 Amp low voltage cut out to supply the store
– Onsite works completed in 5 days
– Award winning project management
Results
• 10 weeks from quote to successful completion
• 5 days project build from start to finish
Following a series of site surveys, power monitoring audits and reviews, Harlaxton designed and built a 500kVA substation for their client’s electrical infrastructure. This was built off-site at the company’s East Midlands warehouse facility and delivered to the customer fully tested and pre-installed with all switchgear and equipment ready for immediate installation and connection to the grid.
The Harlaxton team also provided a full installation service including construction of suitable substation foundations, cable works, jointing and a full commissioning service.
