Doncaster Inland Port Enabling Works
Customer requirements
Our customer has secured planning permission to construct “ iPort” which comprises of a 337 acre (net developable) greenfield development site in Doncaster with an outline planning consent for up to 6 million sq ft of warehouse space and 3 million sq ft of detailed planning consent. The project will incorporate a 35 acre dedicated strategic rail freight terminal.
Harlaxton Engineering Services were awarded the contract to supply the utilities (electricity, gas, water, BT & rising main) to the site.
Project Challenges
During the construction phase we worked closely with our customer to overcome a number of challenges associated with the project:
As our works were only part of a major construction project careful planning & coordination with other trades was critical both on site and at the off-site connection point to avoid delays and slippage on the overall construction project.
The connection point for the new supply to the existing electricity network was located some 12km from site, requiring careful planning of traffic management, as well as co-ordination with multiple local authorities and other contractors to ensure continuous access to the site.
Due to the complexity of the project regular re-designs were necessary to facilitate the bespoke nature of the site.
